According to a leading retailer festive sales will start early because V.A.T. is to go back to it's normall 17.5% from 15%.Bars and clubs that are open on midnight of 31/12/09 will still be allowed to charge the 15%, because they wont close at midnight until 06.00 hrs on 1/1/2010.There is a chance that discounts wont be as generous as they have been in the past.Debenhams is to start it's big sales push starting six weeks before christmas with it's up to 25% off goods.Some stores may even start their sales on their websites on christmas day itself.
